On November 17, American Ashrita Furman-worlds largest number of Guinness Records holder, broke yet another record by finishing 5 miles on a pair of 100cm-high stilts in 39 minutes and 55 seconds on the beautiful Island Ring Road in Xiamen. The old record of 42 minutes had been he

His first record in China
Walking on a pair of iron stilts is never easy for anyone, not to mention walking for 5 miles within 40 minutes. It not only requires great physical st

Ashrita said he was also very nervous before he started that morning since he had never even tried 5 miles before but only 4 miles and wasnt sure whether he could complete it and break the old record. "Now Im very happy that I made it. In the last
4、mile, I had to be really focused. There were a few times when I lost my balance a little and almost fell to the ground. I couldnt afford a fall, because its very difficult to stand up again on those stilts once you fall. When I reached the finishing line, I was extraordinarily excited."

5、ad been training for months and it was his hope that he could make this new record in China. His first destination in China was Sanya in Southern Chinas Hainan Island. But it was too hot there. So he came to Xiamen. "I arrived in Xiamen on December 7. This is my first time to visit Xiamen and its my
6、 favorite place in China. I really like the weather, the sea and the nice people. When I saw the Island Ring Road, I knew that it was the perfect place. Now Im very happy that I set my first record in China.
"The truth is that this record in Xiamen is the most impressive up to now. Im very honest
7、 about that, not because Im in China now but rather that this record had been held for more than 100 years. This has been a hard victory because it was really difficult. I lost about four kilos in the three-months of training for this record. The stilts weigh four kilos each and I had to balance at a height of 55cm off the ground. I had to keep all eyes and ears open."
