Teaching aims:
Make the Ss master the words on page 40. Do the exercises.
Difficult aims:
The words of seasons.
Preparation: CD, cards, tape recorder
Teaching procedure:
Review
Review the words fromperiod 1 with flashcards.
Review the ordinal number 1st
2、to 10th from Unit 3.
Ask the children to write out the ordinal numbers 11th to 31th. The teacher presents the words.
Words to learn
Review the story with the children. Have the children read or tell the story again by themselves. This time focus on the words in the text. You need to explain the
3、meaning of checked, said, keep in the story. The children are not expected to be able to use these words at this lesson.
Have the children look at the calendar on top of page 40. Model the names of the months and have the children repeat.
Draw the children’s attention to the box containing additio
4、nal words on the right. Present the names of four seasons. Model the words and have the children repeat.
You need also to explain the meaning of words date and month.
Listen and number
Have the children look at the pictures at the bottom of the page. Explain that they are going to hear seven pair
5、s of sentences on the tape. Each sentence will tell them the date for a different character’s birthday. The children must listen to the tape and check the correct date next to each character.
The story mentions Ann, Ken and Mocky’s birthday. The children might still remember the dates, so in this a
6、ctivity you can have the children listen to the tape after you explain the instruction.
Play the tape and have the children listen carefully.
Play the tape again and this time have the children check the correct date.
Talk together
Tell the children to open their books at page 41. Explain that K
7、en is making a Birthday Book for his class. Ask the children to read the dialogue by themselves.
Read the dialogue with the children slowly. Then put the children into pairs to practice the dialogue. Tell them to use the birthdays of other people marked out on the calendar.
Listen and practice
H
8、ave the children look at the pictures at the bottom of the page. Tell them they will hear four sentences on the tape. The first two will have words with the /s/ sound in them, and the second two sentences will have words with the /sh/sound.
Have the children look at the pictures and practice readin
9、g the sentences under each picture.
Play the sentences on the tape. Have the children repeat after.
Have the children pratice reading the sentences. Make sure their pronunciation is correct.

Teaching procedure:
Review the story
Ask the children if they still remember when Ken, Ann and Mocky’s birthdays are. Go over the story with the children.
Encourage the children to tell the story.
Ask the children about their date of birth and
13、their age.
Uncle Booky’s Blackboard
The structures of this Unit is paratively easy for the children. Therefore you can focus on the expression of date.
Point to the dates on the board and have the children practice saying them.
Have the children open their books at page 42 and look at the sente
14、nces on the boackboard. Model the structures to the children and have them repeat after you. Make sure each children can say the structures correctly.
Touch, ask and answer
Have the children look at the pictures of seasons at the bottom of the page. Ask them to say the name of each season and to
15、talk about their seasonal activities.
Say, “Which season do you like?” Elicit the answer from the children and their reasons.
Then ask the children, “Which month do you like?” Have individual dhild answer the question and give their reasons for their choice.
Draw their attention to the dialogu
16、es. Have the children read first. The teacher models and then has the children repeat.
Put the children into groups and have them interview each other for their favorite season and month.
When they finish, have the children report their findings to the class.
Read and write
Have the children
17、 open their books at page 43 and look at the pictures and the email on the page. Ask the children to say what they think the email might be about.
Tell the children that the email is from Ken. He wrote about how they celebrated his mother’s birthday. Have the children read the email by themselves.
18、 Explain there are some words missing and you want them to write the correct form of the words from the parentheses to plete the email.
Then read the passage with the children slowly. Have them write the missing words on the lines provided.
Read the text again and have the children tell you what
19、 word they write on each line.
Write an email
Ask the children if they know when their mother’s birthday is. Have the children say the date of their mothers’ birthdays and what they did for their mothers’ birthdays.
Explain Ken wants them to write about how they celebrated their mothers’ birthd
20、ays by emails. It is time for them to write back. Tell the children they can also write about their fathers’ birthdays if they like.
Point to the email at the bottom of the page and explain that they can write in this email. Point to the words in the box and tell the children these words can help
21、them. Explain to the children that you want them to write out the date under the address line, although in a real email there isn’t space for the date there.
Extend the activity
Tell the children to show the emails they write to their parents.
Homework:
Listen to the tape.
