1.Special sounds
. Have the children open their books at page 78 and look at the first two pictures. Encourage them to read out the words.
. Play the tape have the children listen carefully for the difference between the two sounds/bl/ and /br/. Have the chil
2、dren repeat. Check that the children understood the defference in sounds and that their pronunciation is correct by asking individual children to repeat the words.
Extend the activity by turning it into an prediction game. Tell the children that you are going to read a word but you only say the beg
3、inning of the word. Have the children listen and predict which word you are going to read. Or you can ask the children to brainstorm for more words that have the/bl/ or /br/ sound. Write out the words and then have the children group them.
The message
.Ask the children to open their books at page
4、8 and look at the words on the page. Ask them if they can read the message.
.Explain that Martians leave this message and that the children can figure out the message by using the code provided. Have the children look at the code. Make sure that they understand that each letter of the alphabet is
5、 represented by another letter, i, e. A is represent ed by Z.
.Begin with the first Martian word,DV. Have the children look at the code and say what letter is represented by D. The children will say W. Repeat for letter V. Then the children will have the first word,WE. Ask the children to decipher
6、the message by themselves.
1.Write the message
.The book also provide opportunity for the children to write their own message to Martains. Have the children work in pairs and write their own
Message. Then they give their message to each other decode the message.
.Explain that they can use the co
7、de provide on the book,or they they can design their own code.
2.Listen and match
.Have the children look at the picture on top of page 9. Tell them that they are going to listen to a passage about where several children were yesterday.
.Have the children talk about what illustrated in each pictu
8、re. Tell them they are going to listen to the tape and they must match the children to the places where they were. Play the tape straight through. Have the children match the names with the pictures.
.When they finish ,have them tell you the name of the children in each picture. Or you can ask them
9、 to tell where each children was in the pictures.
3.Let’s find out
.Have the children look at the pictures at the bottom of the page. Have them read the dialog ,then tell you what they are talking about.
.Explain that the two children are interviewing each other for where they were yesterday. Tel
10、l them that you want them to find out where their friends yesterday .
.Have them walk around the classroom and interview each other.
.When they finished have them report their findings.

Read the story
.Have the children open their books at page 1
11、0 . Tell the children they are going to read the first part of a traditional European fairytale .The rest of the story appears in the next five Units. Before reading the story ,direct the children’s attention to the box containing new words. Explain the meaning of the words in it. You can have the c
12、hildren predict the meaning of the new words in the story .Or you can choose to explain the words after the children read the story .
.Have the children read the text by themselves first. Tell them you will be there if they had any questions.
.Read the entire passage slowly with the children . Ch
13、eck their understanding with simple factual questions. You can also use the tape.
Have the children listen to the story carefully.
Number the pictures
.Have the children look at the pictures. Explain to the children that each other of the five pictures illustrates a different sentence in the sto
14、ry .They must read the passage again and then number the pictures in the order in which the matching sentences appear in the text.
.Point to the pictures in turn. Have the children talk about the picture or find the sentence matches the picture. Have the children read the story again and number the
15、 pictures in the order in which the matching sentences in the text.
Check the correct answer
.Explain to the children that the unfinished sentences all relate to the story they read in the previous page. All the information they need to plete the sentences is in the text on the facing page.

16、t to the beginning of the first sentence. Then explain that only one of the possible endings is correct. The children must check the box next to the correct answer. Read the beginning of the sentence aloud with the children together and elicit the correct ending. Have the children check the box next

Listen and write the words
.Explain to the children that they are going to hear another version of the first part of Jack and the beanstalk. This time the story will be told by the cow.
.Point to the cows speech bubble.
18、Tell the children that as they listen to the story on the tape they will fill in the missing words. Now point to the box of words . Explain that all the missing words are in this box.
. Play the tape straight through. Have the children write the missing words in the spaces provided. Stop after each sentence if it is necessary.
.Review the pleted sentences in a class drill.
.There are many extended activities for the story.
.Have the children write several sentences about the story from Jack’s mother’s point of view.
Home work
.Ask the children to tell the story to their parents.
