Module 6 A trip to the zoo
Unit 1 Does it eat meat?
What:
The text is a dialogue about asking and answering questions about animals among the guide, Tony and Lingling when they are visiting Beijing Zoo.
How:
The dialogue introduces four kinds of animals and the food they eat
3、 to show some dietary habits of different animals.
Some animals' names (bear, elephant, giraffe, lion, monkey, panda, tiger, zebra) are showed, and some other
words (zoo, guide, animal, country, plant, bamboo, different, dangerous, tall, cute, funny) are used to describe animals.
Words like do, d
4、oes, doesn't, shall are used to organize the general questions and special questions.
Why:
The purpose of this unit is to introduce some animals.
II. Analysis of students
What they knew:
Students have learned some names of animals when they were pupils; They have also learned affirmative and ne
5、gative forms of general questions with Do/ Don't.
What they wonder:
They have trouble in making dialogues using affirmative and negative forms of general questions: Does/ Doesn't and in listening for the main idea and specific details.
What they will learn:
They will learn how to listen for and
6、find out specific information, ask and answer questions about animals using affirmative and negative forms of general questions with Do/ Don't/ Does/ Doesn't. They will also learn to recognize third person verb ending with -s.
III. Teaching Aims
By the end of the this lesson, students will be able

1. use the words, phrases and sentences in the dialogue in their daily life.
2. listen and understand the passage about animals by using listening skills, such as listening for the main idea and specific information.
3. learn the affirmative and negative forms of general questions with Does/
8、 Doesn't .
4. describe some animals about their names, general appearance and the food they eat.
5. be aware of the importance of the animals and the importance of protecting them and the environment.

Step 1: Pre - listening
Warming up:
Show some English proverbs which include animals. Let students guess the meanings of the proverbs.
Communic
11、ate with the students about their favourite animals.
Show them the video of the song Circle of Life which is from the movie The Lion King. Let them say out the animals' names in the video.
Write the names of the animals the student say on the blackboard.
Step 2: While - listening
Activity Two:
12、Read the introduction of Activity Two and make sure they know what they should do, and let them predict what they will hear.
Listen to the tape recording and check the words in Activity 1.
Listen again and check the answer together.
Say what they can get from the tape recording in pairs according
13、 to the questions on the screen.
(1) Which animals do Lingling and Tony like?
(2) Where will they go?
Work in pairs and say what they can see in the picture of Activity One.
Activity Three:
The first listening:
Have the students close the books and show them two questions on the screen.

Ask the student to predict what they will hear by the topics of the module and theunit.
Listen to the recording for the first time and check the answer together.
The second listening:
Show the table on page 37 on the screen, let them
listen again and com

Listen again and check their answers.
Check the answers in groups.
The third listening:
Have the students listen again and complete two sentences on the screen.

Correct the answers by having an answering race.
Step 3: Post - listening
Activity Four:
Get the students to read the dialogue in pairs loudly and then finish Activity Four.
Choose one student to read the passage of
17、Activity Four to check the answers.
Activity Five:
Tell the students they are going to have some pronunciation practise.
Play the first half of the recording without stopping and tell the students to listen to the sounds and words, especially the vowel sounds (/A, / io/, /ea/, /o?).
Play the rec
18、ording again and stop at the end of each line. Ask the class to repeat.
Say the words and the students repeat. Write other words they know with the same sounds on the blackboard. Students repeat.
Ping-pong: One mimes the sound, the other says a word and then they change.
Ask about the spelling of
19、 homophones. Ask what's the same and what's different.
Activity Six:
Have the students observe and try to find out the common point of the four words.
Find out all the verbs that end with -s in the dialogue.
Read these words for the students, and have them pay attention to the pronunciation of -
20、s.
Encourage the students to find out the rule and explain more about the rule by showing a piece of microlecture.
Have the students read the sentences on the screen and pay attention to the s” words. Feel their throats and check their pronunciation if possible.

Activity Seven and Activity Eight:
Work in pairs to ask and answer the questions.
Find out all the general questions that begin with Does.
Explain more about affirmative and negative forms of general questions with Does/Do.

22、age the students to make more affirmative and negative forms of general questions with Does/Do about their favourite animals with their partners according to Activity Eight.
Step 4: Summary and Homework
Summary:
Summarize the words and phrases they have learned.
Summarize the use of affirmative
23、and negative forms of general questions with Does/ Do.
Show the class some pictures that they got along with animals. Have the owners share some interesting things of these animals to let all the students know that animals are our friends.
Homework:
1. Make a word map about different animals in d
24、ifferent continents and give more information about these animals on the map .
2. Read the dialogue again and again until you can read it smoothly and adapt it into a play and perform it in groups.
3. Preview the new words of Unit 2.
