In the sentence “Can you tell me where you’re from?” “Can you tell me” is the main clause, and “where you’re from” is the object clause. Now we go on to make similar sentences. Can you tell me where you’re from? Can you tell me where he’s from? Can you tell me what you are going to do? Can you tell me when he leaves for Beijing? Can you tell me how they are going to go to Nanjing? Can you tell me who will tidy up the room? Can you tell me whether he is a teacher or not? ■Read and listen. On page 10 in the box is a conversation between among Chen Huan, Receptionist, Sally and Lingling. Now let’s go on to read it first. While reading, try to: cut/ the sentence into thought groups, study the predicative, darken the connectives and underline all the useful expressions. Here are some ideas: Plant trees. Save energy. Recycle paper. Don’t waste water or paper. Feed pigs. Develop farming. Turn off TVs. Don’t throw away untidy clothes. Walk to school. Take a taxi to school. ■Close down by paring your ideas from Activity 6. Choose the best idea and then suggest it to the class. We think that planting trees is very useful. We think that we can do a lot of things to save energy. We think that recycling paper can save energy. We think that we can not waste water or paper. We think that we can feed pigs with used paper.
