2、ing and now I will say something about TV. After TV became a product most families could afford, people bought and started to watch their new TVs. Both adults and children became less creative in problem so1ving,less able to persevere(堅持)at tasks,and less tolerant of unstructured time. In my fami
3、ly, we grew up with the TV on. Every weekend, we watched Gun Smoke and Bonanza together as a fami1y. TV provides us with a comfortable background when we want to learn a foreign language at home,and it entertains us cheaply with live action sports,incomparable performing arts and important events o
4、f the world. In addition,it educates us about everything from the cells in our body to the galaxies in the universe. Perhaps it’s not even practical to live without television unless our views change abruptly as we get older. I don’t think that TV damages us so much as it robs us of time that c
5、ould be spent doing other things such as 1earning new skills, getting some exercise or doing vo1unteer work. I was lucky to have a family that watched TV together.Today there seems to be a TV in every room of the house and there's no need to agree on a program to watch.To watch TV or not to watch

The Hats On Day project began a decade ago in Missouri when a fifth—grade class wanted to raise money to help a fellow classmate battling cancer.The children wanted to raise awareness about the effects of chemotherapy(化療)and decided to wear hats to show their sup
13、port for people who lose their hair while undergoing treatment for cancer. During the 10 years since the first Hats On Day, the project has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for children with cancer. Raymond Gredder, a fifth—grade teacher at Land O’Pilies, heads up the program locally. As par
14、t of the project,Land O’Pines students are asked to bring in monetary donations this week that will be contributed to the Foundation for Children with Cancer.
