Teaching propertiesL: pictures map tape-recorder Teaching procedures: A. songs: Will it be windy? B. Free talk: talk about two Ss. C. new concepts: (Step1).Draw a Chinese map on the blackboard. Point to Beijing and Tianjin, and then talk what is bigger. Handwriting: (Unit 2 Beijing is bigger than Tianjin.) Then let Ss try to say out the same meaning sentence. (Tianjin is smaller than Beijing.) Point to Mount Qomolangma and Mount Tai, talk and write: (Mount Qomolangma is higher than Mount Tai.)\ (Mount Tai is lower than the Mount Qomolangma.) Point to the Changjiang River and the Yellow River, talk and say: (The Changjiang River is longer than the Yellow River.) And the other sentence (The Yellow River is shorter than the Changjiang River.) Show out the pictures of the Great Wall and the Summer Palace. Look and learn. Then talk: (The Great Wall is older than the Summer Palace.) Listen and read the lesson. (Step 2)Make more sentences, talk about (Beijing and Shanghai Snake and chameleon…) (Step 3) listen and learn the poem. (Listen 3 times and try to chant.) Then have a race between two groups, and say out“ Which group is good\better\worse.” Write “good better worse”on the blackboard. Let Ss try to say them. Hold up or point to the appropriate weather symbol You will have to sayrainingor snowing if there is rain or snow. Note that you will also have to teach cloudyas it is in the poem.Then perform mimes to show the students the meaning of the other weather conditions or make a statement and have the students do an appropriate mime. Step 2 : Learning and Pracitising 1)Have the students close their books.Call out a city and the students have to say the type of weather in that city.(Do a lot of examples. Then have the students continue the activity in pairs.After three turns,they should swap roles.) 2)Have the students look at the books and say what they think the chant will be about(the weather),and ask the students what is their favourite time of year and why, Find out if they prefer being hot or cold. 3)Play the spoken version of the chant and get the students to repeat. 4)Play the tape and have the class say the chant as they listen. 5)Divide the class into three groups.Explain that each group will say one stanza of the chant. 6)Explain to the students that they can do some actions as they say the chant.They can move their bodies slightly as they saywindyto indicate that they are being blown about by the wind .They can fan themselves with their hands as they say the wordhot. When they say cloudy,they should look upwards as though they are looking at the sky.They can shiver as they saysnow.When they say playin the last stanza, they should give a big smile. 7)Play the tape again and have each group say the appropriate stanza and do the assigned actions.
